Brisbane dams fiasco 2 (letter)

by Edward Coonan

News Weekly, March 5, 2011
Sir,

Contrary to Patrick J. Byrne's claim in his article (News Weekly, February 5), the Wayne Goss Labor Government never attempted to build the Wolfdene Dam south of Brisbane.

All the ground work and expenditure of a few million dollars had already been completed by the previous National Party Government.

When Labor won the election, they scrapped the dam project for political reasons after a strong campaign was launched by the people whose properties had been resumed.

This is not a criticism of Mr Byrne's article, as I totally concur with the opinions in the articles that News Weekly publishes.

I have been a strong supporter of the NCC for many years. It's a pity that governments don't take more notice of your suggestions.
